The first general store in Gould Village. Built around 1850 by James Ross and his wife Marianne Browne, it was for more than a century the nerve center of effervescent economic and human activities. The Auberge La Ruée vers Gould is an evocative reconstitution of the determination of the Highlanders of Lewis Island to develop a village and a township that will count more than 1200 people at the end of the 19th century.

The right portion of the house was added around 1875 and was a dwelling at the time. This portion could easily be converted back into a dwelling. Another addition was made in 1995 and involved the rear portion of the house: additional dining/reception room and covered porch. Lots of storage space in the basement and garage.
Home comfort is provided by 2 wall-mounted heat pumps (2017), a slow-burning wood-burning fireplace (1995), an antique wood-burning stove (1995) and electric baseboards.
The main floor ceilings are up to 9 feet 8 inches high, the 2nd floor ceilings are up to 10 feet 1 inch and the basement ceilings are up to 6 feet 7 inches.
The roof is covered with asphalt shingles, a portion of which was replaced in 2017 and the other portion will be replaced in 2022. The drain field and septic system will be replaced in 2022. The foundation of the house was completely redone in the early 1970s and is made of concrete.
The village of Gould (Lingwick) is located 30 minutes from Sherbrooke and Lac-Mégantic and 2 hours from Montreal and Quebec.
60% of the building is considered commercial, so 60% of the sale price will be taxable. The property will be sold without legal warranty. The equipment necessary for the operation of the inn and the restaurant could be sold separately for $35,000.
